Have you ever questioned why you need such a stout aftermarket oil pickup (such as our own)? The OEM pickup in the EG motor takes more abuse than you might think.
The OEM EJ engine oil pickup is seam welded, thin walled, with a braised-on flange, and one thin sheet metal support leg. This combination of budget minded manufacturing choices is a known recipe for failure. The braised flange is a weak point. Not necessarily because of the braise; it is the flux that is not cleaned off after the braising process that causes harm. This braze flux acid eats at the seam and weakens the metal.
