Which Killer B oil pickup fits my pan?

A killer blog

With all of the options available, customers often ask which oil pickup fits their car. This may sound like a simple question, but it can be complicated.

A little background. Which pickup you use is dependent on which oil pan is installed, since their dimensions have to fit together. Subaru vehicles are / were equipped with EJ20, EJ25, FA20, and FA24 series engines. In some cases, knowing which engine came in your year / model isn't enough. For reasons unknown, Subaru sometimes uses the "eni mini mani mo" method when choosing which oil pan to use, sometimes varying mid model year. To further complicate the situation, the region your car was sold in (USDM,JDM, etc...) may also be a factor. Another thing to consider is "was your pan swapped at some point?". Older vehicles with multiple owners may not have the original pan. For those reasons we do not use YMM to determine fitment.

Random fact: In regards to oiling, the bottom of the EJ blocks are all the same with the rare exception.

Unless a customer is positive and belligerent, we tell them to look under the car and identify the pan.

Here are some "safer" bets.

The images below will help you choose an oil pickup for your EJ motor based on what pan you have.
